Landscapes
In my artistic journey, I've found inspiration in the landscape of Central Otago, New Zealand, which has a unique geological history. Not only that, the dry Central Otago climate showcases the clearest of colours, the brightest of light, and darkest of shadow.
My paintings frequently involve a reimagination of this distinctive region. I'm drawn to the interplay of opposites - light and dark; inside and out; complementary colours. I hope that my unconventional colour choices reflect the dramatic contrasts that Central Otago offers. For me, shades and hues of blue take centre stage in Central Otago and they often takes centre stage in my works - whether it's the deep azure of the sky, the electric blues of waterscapes, or simply the out-of-place use of a blue in an interior. This colour is frequently the emotional anchor of my work.
