Hi, I’m Katie
I’m a painter based in Alexandra, Central Otago, New Zealand.
I am a PhD scientist, turned painter and in both worlds ENERGY is the key. I love to paint the energy of the landscapes and the seasons; the energy of our stories.
Much of my inspiration comes from the Otago region—its vistas, its histories, its ghosts. My ancestry, tied to the Otago gold rush through both Chinese and Scottish roots, lies beneath many of my paintings.
My landscapes are about colour and texture; about the geology and the flora. My interiors might feature a quiet cottage or a quirky object or animal.
For me, painting is a way to connect—with my true self firstly, and then with place, with memory, with emotion and with people.
You can find me on Instagram: @katie_robinson_art, on Facebook: KatieRobinsonArtist and my works in person at the Rachel Hirabayashi Gallery and Emporium in the Heritage Precinct, Cromwell, and at Depot Artspace, Devonport Auckland.
I am a committee member of the Central Otago Art Society.
In early 2026, I was invited to be a guest on the Creative Connections podcast. The podcast was founded in early 2021 and it celebrates the stories of visual artists living in Aotearoa NZ - their personal journeys, perspectives, art practices and unique creative processes - with a goal to document stories, capture a moment in time, inspire, educate, encourage creativity and build community.
I was pretty chuffed to be a guest! You can see my podcast page here
